Quick Overview

Authorized by Congress in 1986 as a vehicle for investors to buy precious metals, American Gold Eagle gold coins are guaranteed for weight, purity and content by the U.S. government. American Gold Eagle gold coins are minted using only gold mined from U.S. soil. One side of the American Gold Eagle gold coins, as the name suggests, depict sculptor Miley Busiek’s American eagle clutching an olive branch as he lands in a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. The other side of the American Gold Eagle gold coins portray sculptor August Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty, also holding an olive branch in one hand and a torch in the other.
